Rare Breed of Corpsman

CASEVAC Patch

"The CASEVAC team is a rare breed of corpsman taken from units literally all over the world. We have Corpsman from Japan, III MAW, Naval Hospitals like Portsmouth Va and Jacksonville Fl, and units in NC and SC, like II MAW, II FSSG, and II MARDIV. HMM-264 is known as the Black Knights. The CASEVAC team does not belong officially to any unit, but directly to the MEF.
We affectionately call ourselves the " Flying Ligers". This is more of an ongoing joke than anything. We have no official name but "Flying Ligers" will work. Let me just say that It has been a real pleasure serving with the men and women of HMM 364. We were immediately accepted into the family and treated like "veteran" CASEVAC corpsman and a welcomed part of the crew. The crews did not treat us like a bunch of " new guys" or "outcast", in which we were expecting. They helped us learn our way around all the unfamiliar territories that surround CASEVAC and the other missions of 364, and even showing us how we could further help the unit by acting more like a crew member and less like passengers.
A liger is the result of breeding a male lion with a female tiger. It has stripes and spots. The spots are inherited from the lion parent even though adult lions do not appear to be spotted.

Creating the memories and friendships with these very professional men and women will always stand out in our minds as a great experience, and for the first time, a bunch of us can actually say "we made a difference" directly speaking. This is a new animal that the Navy and Marine Corps is trying to tackle. We are not the first, but thus far we are the first officially trained and best equipped CASEVAC team that has ever deployed with the NAVY/Marine Corps Team. I hope that this information helps you and I will get a Picture to you soon of the CASEVAC patch that all the corpsman and crew wear with honor. Thank you for all your help and we all looking forward to the next 3 months."
