Crew Chief Dies in Car Crash

In his all-too-brief life, James Derrick Arthur spent much of his free time preparing for a future that would never arrive.

The 25-year-old former Marine corporal from Schriever enjoyed crafting objects, especially wooden ones, in his leisure time and dreamed of becoming a mechanical engineer.

Arthur died March 13 in a Lafayette crash. Police say he hit a utility pole. In what his father called “his final way of helping someone,” Arthur donated his organs.
